1. Venting process
Mon Oct 18th, 2021
- Checked the main volume is isolated.
- TP1 and TP2 were made isolated from other volumes. Stopped TP1. Closed V4 to isolate TP1 from TP2.
- TP3 was made isolated. TP3 was stopped.
- We wanted to vent annuli, but it was not allowed as VA6 was open. We closed VA6 and vented the annuli with VAVEE.
- We wanted to vent the volume between VA6, V5, VM3, V7 together with TP1. So V7 was opened. This did not change the TP1 pressure (P2 = 1.7mmTorr) .
- We wanted to connect the TP1 volume with the main volume. But this was not allowed as TP1 was not rotating. We will vent TP1 through TP2 once the vent of the main volume is done.
- Started venting the main volume@Oct 18, 2021 9:45AM PDT
- We started from 10mTorr/min, and increased the vent speed to 200mTorr/min, 700mTorr/min, and now it is 1Torr/min @ 20Torr
- 280Torr @11:50AM
- 1atm @~2PM
We wanted to vent TP1. We rerun the TP2 and tried to slowly introduce the air via TP2. But the interlock prevents the action.

Following are different parts of this phase. These are mostly going to be in order, but some parts can be started in parallel or sometimes are required to go in parallel. So they do not necessarily define a chronological order of doing things.
2. Part I: Optics removal on westside of BS Table
- We removed the following optics from the BSC table and stored them in X-end flowbench with fan on. See attachment 1 and 2.
- IPPOS SM2
- GRX SM2
- PRM OL1
- PRMOL4
- IPPOS SM3
- IPANG SM1
- PRM OL2
- Unidentified optic inbetween IPPOS45P and IPPOS SM3
- Beam block behing PR3
- Beam block behind GR PBS
- GR PBS
- GRPERI1L (Periscope)
- PRMOL3
- IPPOS45P
- Cylindrical counterweight on North-west end of table.
- Cheap rectangular mirror on South west end of table (probably used for some camera, but not in use anymore)
- IPANGSM2
- We also changed the direction of clamp of MMT1 to move it away from the center of the able (where PRM will be placed)
- We screwed in the earthquake stops on PRM and BS from front face and top.
- We unscrewed the cable post for BS and PRM oplevs and loved it in between SR3 and BS and screwed it lightly.
- We moved the PRM, turned it anti-clockwise 90 degrees and brought it in between TT2 and BS. Now there is a clear line of sight between TT2 and PR2 on ITMY table.
- We opened the laser head shutter.
- we scanned around the PMC resonance and locked it. We then opened the PSL shutter, touched the MC1, MC2 and MC3 alignment (mostly yaw) and managed to lock the IMC.
- The transmission peaked at ~ 1070 counts (typical is 14000 counts, so at 10% of PSL power we would expect a peak transmission of 1400 counts, so there might still be some room for improvement).
- The lock was engaged at ~ 16:53, we'll see for how long it lasts.

3. Part II: Relocation of TT2 and MMT1/2 alignment to TT2
- Cleared the space in front of the injection chamber (former OMC chamber).
- We removed the following and placed them in the Xend flow bench:
- Two stacked counterweights from near the center of the BS table, from behind TT2
- We unscrewed TT2 and relocated it to the new BHR layout position.
- This provided us with the target for the alignment of MMT1 and MMT2 mirrors.
- While aligning MMT1 and MMT2, we realized that the BHR layout underestimated the clearance of the beam from MMT2 to TT2, from the TT1 suspension unit.
- The TT1 suspension stage was clipping our beam going to TT2. To rectify this, we decided to move the MMT2 mirror mount about a cm South and retry.
- We were able to align the beam to the TT2 optic, but it is a bit off-center.
- The reflection of TT2 now is going in the general direction of the ITMX chamber.

4. Part IIa: Get Green lock for reference
- Add dummy PR2 weight near its plan position on ITMX chamber.
- Balance ITMX chamber table and align ITMX through CDS to get green lock on X-arm.
- Balance ITMY chamber table and align ITMY through CDS to get green lock on Y-arm.
5. Part III: PRC Folding mirror placement
Replacing PR3 with SOS with a new optic (E1800089).
- Aligning TT2, PR2, and PR3 to get the beam to the BS center.
- Set up 2-3 irises.
5.1. Elog posts
6. Part IV: SR3 replacement with SR2
Cleared East side of BS table. Following optics were removed and placed in Xend flow bench:
- OM4-PJ
- GRX_SM1
- OM3
- BSOL1
- Replace SR3 with the new SOS called SR2 now.
6.1. Elog posts
7. Part V: POX Path setup
- Align PR2-PR3 such that the BS beam is going to ITMX at the typical spot and the existing POX path is lit.
- Clear the ITMX table. Following optics need to be removed:
- POP FW
- POP BW
- ITMX OL1
- ITMX OL2
- POXM1
- Place POX M1 on the BS table and get the reflected beam out on the ITMX table outside.
8. Part VI: POY Path setup
Clear the ITMY table. Following optics need to be removed:
- OM1
- OM2
- POYM1
- ITMY OL1
- ITMY OL2
- SRM OL1
- SRM OL2
- SR2
- Place POYM1.
- Align PR2-PR3 such that the BS beam is going to ITMY at the typical spot and the existing POY path is lit.
- Place POYM2 and get the reflected beam out to the BS table outside.
8.1. Elog posts
9. Part VII: SRM Oplev setup
Note these steps are done without SRM present. The optics will be tentatively in their positions.
- Put in place SRMOL2.
- Put in place SRMOL1.
10. Part VIII: LO Path up to LO2 setup
- Removed following from ITMX table:
- POPM1 (POP FW)
- POPM2 (POP BW)
- Place LO2 in position.
10.1. Elog posts
11. Part IX: AS Path setup
- Align the PR2, PR3, and BS such that the reflected light from ITMX hits back SR2.
- Align SR2 such that the beam goes through the center of the planned position of SRM.
- Place AS2 and AS3 in position.
11.1. Elog posts
12. Part X: BHDBS Path setup
- Place LO3 and LO4 in position.
- Place BHDBS in position and align LO3, LO4 to get a beam on BHDBS.
- Align AS4 such that AS beam is overlapping with BHDBS.
13. Part XI: POP Path setup
- Align ITMY such that the back-reflected beam comes straight back in the same path as the incidence beam.
- The back-reflected beam should hit LO1 SOS on a different spot. Place POP_SM4 there.
- Place POP_SM5 to get POP reflected out into the ITMY table.
14. Part XII: AS RFPD Path setup
- Track transmission from AS2 mirror to BS table.
- Ensure clearance and place ASL in position on BS table.

- Place GRX SM1 and SRX SM2 in positions.
- Align to get both transmitted green beam out in the BS table.
16. Part XIV: ITMX oplevs
Layout Q: Can we push the mirrors back to keep more clearance?
- Turn on He-Ne laser on the ITMX table outside.
Place ITMXOL1 such that OpLev hits ITMX in the center.
- Place ITMX OL2 to collect reflected beam and send it back to ITMX table outside.
17. Part XV: ITMY oplevs
