How To Configure NETGEAR EX3700
Items: EX3700 unit, Martian Unix host, GC computer (PC or Mac)
- Using the Martian Unix host, go to 192.168.113.232 (wireless router). Make the SSIDs for the 2GHz and 5GHz networks visible. Also temporarily set the MAC ADDR filtering to "Default Allow".
- Connect the unit on the wall power tap.
- Connect your PC to the ethernet port of the unit.
- You are prompted to set the e-mail and password of the unit. I used
email: karai@caltech.edu
- password: same as the controls password "w*********"
- security question 1: answer 1991
- security question 2: answer Tsubono
- You are requested to specify which network the unit wants to connect. Give the SSID 40MARS and 40MARS_5G for 2GHz and 5GHz, respectively.
- Give the name of the extended 2G/5G network. They are 40MARS_2GEXT1 and 40MARS_5GEXT1.
- Now the unit is connected to the wifi network. You should be able to connect to the same page by opening 192.168.1.128/start.htm . It helps you as the browser interface is slight easier to handle than the dialog browser window.
- The unit still has the initial IP of 192.168.1.XXX. Let's change this to 192.168.113.XXX.
- From the menu at the top left corner, slect "Setting / Wireless"
- Go down to IP Address
- Select "Static IP". Type in the information like
- IP addr: 192.168.113.233
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.113.2
- DNS: 192.168.113.104
- Now put "Save". This disconnects you from the unit.
- Setup your ethernet connection of your PC/MAC to have static IP like
- IP addr: 192.168.113.239 (arbitorary but take care not to have a duplicated IP with others)
- Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.113.233
- This should give you the wired connection recovered.
- Confirm you can ping your PC (192.168.113.239) from the martian unix host.
- Confirm the wireless bridge is registered in the MAC ADDR filter. Revert the MAC ADDR filter setting to have "Default Deny".
- Revert hidden SSID setup for the wireless router.
