Chandler Dining Hall
Main campus cafeteria. Custom designed pizza is excellent. Alberto says it's the best pizza in Pasadena.
Broad Cafe
Food isn't great, but they do burgers to order on the grill. Make sure to insist on 'rare' to get medium. Or else they make it black. Main attraction is they have beer. Do not order "Thai" offerings!
Athaneum
Fancy faculty club place on campus. Need to be a member. Has bar in the basement. Outdoor seating in the summer. "Kobe" beef burgers are good.
Souplantation
Close to campus, at Lake and Cordova. Good buffet restaurant: large salad bars, pizza, focaccia, pasta, hot soups, frozen yogurt, pastries, coffee, sodas. Perfect for vegetarians who also enjoy healthy food. Buffet ticket for Caltech people is about $9.
Cham
Recently opened (August 09) Korean Bistro on Cordova (North side, near the intersection with Lake). Veggie friendly. "Modern" Korean cuisine with clean presentation and select offerings. Don't expect any sizzling stone pots, but the flavors of traditional Korean fare shine through. 3.5 stars.
Burger Continental
On Lake near California, West side. Mediterranean food. Cheap and not too bad. Lunch buffet discounted for Caltech. Being served by the Armenian owner completes the middle-eastern ethnic experience. Belly dancers on Friday night.
Matsuri
Sushi place on Wilson and Green. Kind of pricey, but its the closest Sushi place. Not bad.
In-N-Out
Excellent burgers. Try the Animal Fries if you're feeling adventurous (like chilli cheese fries, but rather than chilli you get grilled onions and sauce). Fries are best ordered 'well' (a little crispier than regular). Anything can be customized....if they have the ingredients, they can probably make it for you.
On Foothill, just west of Craig.
Bistro K
Very good / very expensive, french-style bistro. Unknown quality change since former chef Laurent Quinoux left, but probably still good.
Tarantino's Pizza
Good pizza, not expensive. No Delivery. Within walking distance; on Green St. one block west of Lake. Menu images:
Chipotle
Fast food Mexican chain, with sustainably raised pork. Excellent, reasonably priced burritos. Serves beer and margaritas. On Lake.
Zankou Chicken
LA institution founded by Armenians. Good roasted chicken. On Colorado near Chester.
Il Capo Cafe
Nice little Argentinian/Italian place on Green near Catalina. Friendly service, excellent steaks.
Tartine
In San Fransisco. Highly recommended by Steve, especially the Croque Monsieur. http://www.tartinebakery.com/
Daisy Mint
Asian fusion place on Colorado near Chester. Cheap & good.
Romeo's Pizza
Need menu...http://www.romeos-pizzeria.com/pizza.htm
Baja Express
Mexican Food. On the NE corner of Lake and Del Mar. Has outdoor seating. Takes ~5 minutes to get food after ordering. Can call in order on the phone. Somehow they have gone in Jan 2010.
Yujean Kang
Decent chinese restrant in Old Pasadena. Don't forget to make a reservation for Beijing Duck at least 2 days prior to the visit.
Yama Seafood
911 W Las Tunas Dr San Gabriel, CA 91776
This is not a restaurant but a Japanese grocery store. It is a quite small place and is easily missed if you try to find it. It is next to Jack-in-the box and the parking is the back of the store. You can find VERY fresh raw fishes (tuna, salmon, and others) and some sushi plates for to-go. The people there are quite friendly with true Japanese hospitality. You can also ask the master to cut the fish into Sashimi or even to make sushi. I never had such soft and sweet slices of octopus. The best sushi/sashimi I(=KA) ever had in LA so far. They also have special Japanese cucumbers that are amazingly fresh.
Ginger Corner Market
At Michigan-Blanche (a block north of Del Mar). A successor of Eddie's corner market.

The Luggage Room Pizzarie
Best pizza in Pasadena at the Del Mar Train Station. Only Chandler Hall has the same quality Steve says. Low price and cheap wine-beer at happy hours. http://theluggageroom.com/
Sushi Gen @ Little Tokyo
Japanese certified authentic sushi restaurant
Just one block away from the gold line station "Little Tokyo". Just next of Frances Bakery.
This is a real sushi restaurant; many artisan-spilitted sheffs in the counter, no menu than Sushi (not like many fake Sushi places).
The lunch is particularly famous and you have to make a line for an hour. Tried a lunch sashimi special (only available on a table). It had red tuna, and two kind of white fishes (2-3 slices each) as well as many small pieces like remnants of better part of tuna, a slice of squid (yummy), negitoro, spicy-tuna-negitoro, deeply cooked fish (gil of some white fish?), baked Salmon. All of them were so fresh and there was no fishiness at all. It comes with a starter (cooked tofu), pickles, and miso-soup. And it was $15.
They are open in the lunch time only from Mon-Fri. It is open for dinner form Mon-Sat.

Takuya Japanese Restaurant
Real Japanese Sushi in Pasadena!
Urth Caffe
Sophisticated and excellent sand witches, salads, desserts, coffee and teas. http://www.urthcaffe.com/ Steve loves it and recommending it highly.

Do not miss the side maps for coffee or best cheap place .....
Union
Great food, pricy. http://unionpasadena.com/menu/

Do not get desserts.
Tartine is coming to LA

It means that you do not have to go San Francisco to injoy it !
Proof Bakery
Excellent new find. Great sandwiches after noon and supreme desserts. Just south of Brand Blvd. in Glendale. Steve's rating 9/10
Mendocino Farms
Superb salads. Long line. From Steve https://www.mendocinofarms.com/pasadena/
