CARM Pole is not completely dependent on. If residual CARM is the problem, we can do third harmonic generation eliminates the extra noise ? Then PRCL Will be completely independent of CARM. CARM is moving too much and we can't just hand off the CARM. - Jenne asks why we can;t use sqrt(Trans). The sites use an intermediate step. Get to Sqrt(Trans) as soon as possible because of how quiet it is compared to ALS. === Meeting 3/26/2025 === - Peter can try acoustic noise injection. Try putting 10 to 50 Hz, and see what happens in the low frequencies at the ALS Table. Make sure things are quiet, turn off fan. Take ambient noise spectrum, play acoustic noise (needs a DAC Channel into SR560, BNC to Alligator clip cable.), based on the data, you can/can't rule out noise from acoustic noise. - === Meeting 3/19/2025 === - Peter needs to post photos of the Razor Blade beam dumps into the elog. - AS WFS Now work for the MICH Configuration. For MICH, the Time constant of the WFS is about 5 seconds. FPMI with WFS Feeding back to the ETMs work now. Rana is Proud! MICH loss gets controlled so that we can lock. What does centering the WFS beam actually mean? Does it really have a benefit? - Rana won't let JC choose food reward for cleaning cage area. === Meeting 3/12/2025 === - All machines are now running on the New Timing System with the iRIG-B System. Timing needs a 12V and 24V power supply. This is currently running on benchtop power supplies, we will move it over to some sorenson we have as spares. - Paco has laid down the new Dolphin cable, which possibly was broken. This fixed the c1ioo issue. May be temporary, bet hopefully it's permanent. The fiber cable will be ;laid down after the meeting today. - Always balance the coils with Oplev beams, NOT OSEMS! - In the Q while driving, the coefficient are changing and the magnitudes get plotted with a phase rotation. Where ever this Zero Crossing is, that is where you want to focus. Masaya will contact Masayuki about this script called pyLocking.py and post it to the Git. - Peter has started ALS Hunting. Save .xml Files and post .pdfs and .pngs in the elog. Record the GPS times of the times when you work on ALS System. === Meeting 1/29/2025 === - N2 Lining will be checked with soapy water to find leaks. - Purchase list for all Vac Components. TP1 has the Maintenance alert on the LED Screen. - C1:ASC-AS55REFL_WFS, We need to continue with the nomenclature we currently have. We need to use DC instead of LF. LF is a Cheeto type of way to name things. If the singal is longitudinal, adjust the gain util you frind the free swinging signal you are looking for. You want to use this with quadrant balancing. This is a first order pass type of thing. Use a signal integrator for the feedback and lock the bandwidth in length at 0.1 Hz. For the MICH test, feedback to the BS or ITMs. Try using Sh-Mem (Shared Memory), - UPS BATTERY FOR C1VAC === Meeting 1/22/2025 === - Erik will be helping us remotely to see if he can adjust and fix the gpstime script. - We can use C1ASC for the AS WFS Channels. - Write down my idea of the air compressor on a pad. Current amps ? Readouts for the medm? - Better Drawers for screw organization. - UPS BATTERY FOR C1VAC === Meeting 11/20/2024 === - Radhika have enabled the analog output of the CMBoard, but each time we enable boost, MC2 is automatically kicked. Kojii expects the slow loop to be aroud 100db, at somepoint, below the UGF we have Fact CM --> Stable crossover --> Enable Boost? We want to boost both slow and fast simultaneously. CARM Sees closed loop IMC, so Carm is seeing (Big Number)/(Big Number + 1) which is pretty much equal to 1. Radhika is working on enabling the Boost for the MC Servo, possibly an offset ? Though a 7Hz is coming out of the AO output. This may be due to the output resistor of the AO Slot. <>. — CMBoard is only low noise above -10 dB. It's okay. - Don't use the LIGO WFS Housing Box. For REFL, Shoudl we use 11 or 55 MHz? Get the PCBs set up and test out the Heads by January. === Meeting 11/20/2024 === - Radhika have enabled the analog output of the CMBoard, but each time we enable boost, MC2 is automatically kicked. Lock a single arm and input a signal to the AO Board of the mode cleaner. Look at POX from 1 kHz to 100 kHz. This measurement include the MC but the arm cavity is proportional to Freq, so the only difference will be some DC Gain and the arm cavity pole. Since the the MC is so fast, it undoes its own cavity pole. In the "Ultimate", the 1/f comes from the CARM Pole. There is a poorly documented switch on the CM Board that you can switch on (6:00). - For Masaya : 24:00 === Meeting 11/13/2024 === - Masaya's model - The model should include and consist of - We will look into better UPS' and surge protectors for the front ends. Maybe purchase a small UPS for each if they use enough AC Plugs. - Stuart will check out our new FB disks. Stick with this FB for a while but then update with a nice machine stuart sets up and copy the brain over. - What is the Data rate for file transfer? How fast do the front ends receive the files from Chiara. - There are two unity gain crossings that matter, 10 kHz, and the crossover at the LSC Feedback to MC2. You can measure this digitally. Treat the MC Servo as being "Infinitely Strong". You may be able to see the servo pump at ~10k. The CM board is made . There is no gains in the In1 and In2 paths being used as of now. Measure the OLTF of the MCL with AO disconnected. Inject small signal into the Input. - Make sure that the AO Signal is less that 100kHz - === Meeting 11/06/2024 === - Vacuum System: Inputting Oxygen to Ozone, which could possibly unstick particles inside the tubes. The issue is that this could damage the HR Coating on optics. Ozone is not neutral, but highly reactive. Coatings are SiO2, which is in theory "Safe", but prefer not to risk it. - POX and POY Noise and very low in comparison to the electronics noise. This causes the 60 Hz to become overwhelming. 5 min. - Since the laser is locked to the MC, it generates a lot of Freq. Noise. in the band of 0.1 - 10 Hz.(MC is less stable than the laser) Make the lock acquisition of the arms equal 0. Right now we are feeding back completely to the laser, but what if we feed back to the MC2 Suspension a little bit ? (For below 10 Hz) Design the optimal feedback filter so we have the correct balance for what we want to do. Take a deeper look into the previous elogs from 2005 or so. This is much more complicated than a PID Loop. Frequency domain cost function. What frequency is the feedback to the laser better than the length? - TT Damping (Jitter Reduction), OpLev Damping - TT Grab the tranfer function to get the actual Q, or kick it and plot the waveforms on the elog. We just was it good and functionaal with in 20 min. — Rana is not watching out for the Specgram. — High bandwidth CARM has not been locked. Radhika still needs to take the transfer function. Try Phase meter high bandwidth control with only one arm. Use the VCO which drives the AOMs. It's an 80 mHz signal which moves as fast and youd like it to without any Lag. Maybe we can get a definitive phase meter lag measurement. — By the time we have PRCL locked we want WFS in hand. We NEED WFS at the AS Port. We have to get the PCB Status by the end of the day. Ask Ali to place the order for the components and to charge on our account. === Meeting 10/23/2024 === - Radhika’s CM Board : The error signal is very effective at 32 Hz, and is communicating well with the CM Board. We enable the Dewhitening on the CM Slow, but on the handoff, we need to disable this dewhitening. - For the handoff to be successful, MOKU Out phase meter is insensitive to controlling the arms. Options for Radhika’s issues are 1) Fix the Phase meter. 2) Use slow control of the phase meter off set, so that ALS Error satisfies the zero crossing (Doesn’t necessarily have to be ALS ERR). Use a Marconi to add some frequency/phase modulation to measure the transfer function of the phase meter. - Koji pitches the idea of having a fiber Eom in the 40m This would increase the actuation power at higher frequencies. This would be best done after PMC, but some mode-matching would have to take place. - Aaron There is some strange mixture of calibration measurement and the simulation measurement. The calibration factor could be wrong, transfer function is wrong. If Aaron is using the feedback signal to calibrate the free running displacement of the interferometer, you have to compensate the high frequency attenuation using the loop function. PRCL involves more mirrors, so you should expect more noise. Factor of ~1.5. MICH Feedback is applied to both BS and PRM. - Lock both arms, wiggle them, and the phase tracker gives you the exact motion. ITMs are calibrated exactly in meters. To take out a notch at factor 2 or 3 above the UGF of that loop to keep that loop stable. - Dennis’ Thesis recommends that we don’t just use the control or error signal, but the is an optimum which combines both signals with filters applied to create the best signal. The question is, how do you find out what is the filter we use for the both signal. Dennis’ Thesis says that we can use an optimal filter which can make us immune to what we aren’t interested in such as optical gain and whatnot. - A Jupyter Notebook for Aarons work would be nice. One that shows and explain how PR is calibrated. From here, we can make others. - Jc will gather info on the AS WFS Components. Gather the pricing for Cables, CDS Interfaces, Costs 2 Heads, Anti Aliasing filters, Whitening filters. One at the AS Port Pronto. AS Port WFS Will maintain the Beamspot position of the (1% or 5% of the AS Beam for the WFS) Heads should be the Advanced LIGO Heads, use the same chassis panels, but use the 1U Chassis. === Meeting 9/4/2024 === - Radhika has swapped out the ADC Cards and Adapter Cards, but there hasn't been a change. Koji suggests that we comment out the "waiting" line in the C-code which is running the bootup of the IO Chassis. http://nodus.ligo.caltech.edu:8080/40m/18446 - Try assembling a fresh IO Chassis with fresh motherboard, backplane, timing cards, and ONE ADC Card. === Meeting 9/4/2024 === - The correct way to shut off & Start up a Sorenson is to turn down the voltage & Currents to 0.0, turn on and off the Sorenson, then turn up the voltage & current back up to it's nominal value. This save && prevents the OpAmps from becoming noisier due to the sudden change. - Each of the switches with the acromags have a Transistor goes from on to off, and dumps all of the 5mAmps of current per switch. Each on Switch pulls 5mAmps, the current is being pulled from the 5 Volt input with a k resistor. If the VCC is 3.9 V, how much does the current change while we are toggling switches. How do we know if the switches are actually switches. At somepoint, we should toggle some switches and record the change in current on the Sorenson. - TTs are no longer drifting. We never found out what the actual issue was, but if this electronics swap fixes our drifting issue . . . we won't have to really know the pin point cause of this. - Beatnotes are phase detectors. When we get CARM to hold it goes from 4 kHz to 200 Hz . We make a CARM has a pole at 200 Hz. Create something with a pole at 200 Hz 0 at 4kHz and stick that into the arm error signal. This is so that the servo sees a CARM plant. But how would you go from the Beatnote plant to the CARM plant? - While the green laser gives you the arm cavity information wiew attachment to today's meeting for this. Flipping the sign in the Moku will remove the servo issues we are having. === Meeting 8/21/2024 === - Aaron's update on finesse modeling: Kenny pushed an update on the PRMI to Git. There are a few questions: Will there be length noise from the Power Recycling Cavity ? If we lock PRMI with SideBands, what will the noise budget consist of ? What is actually measureable? The MICH Displacement? Aaron has problems with modeling the wedges on the Test Masses.(Make the reflection coefficient equal to a loss?) - Note the annual expenses of the 40m laboratory and toss these into the wiki page to kep track of the lab's annual costs. === Meeting 8/14/2024 === - To generate seismic noise, since it is white, the PSD is flat. This is similar to how Kenny can add in the how we will 10^{-13} meters and adjust as necessary. - When we mounts lens', we need to pick a default way of labeling. · Purchase Label sizes small enough to wrap on the lens mount. · "Black Background and Red Text" is the standard for good contrast. · - Digitally controlled oscillator, multiplies two 'sin' waves, One goes in raw and the other goes through a mixer to turn into a 'cos' wave. Two inputs will integrate at another mixer and equal zero. The feedback is the argument of the sin function. in an analog vco, Voltage controls the freq, not the wave. Digital oscillator also changes really fast to accomodate to the outside signal (Real World Signal). - Top 3 candidates for the TT drifting situation: · Ribbon Cable is of Suspicion. (If this is the issue, we can ask a company to design a company.) · We need a Satellite Box so that we can add PDs to the Tip Tilts and get the OSEMS Working once again. - Digitally controlled oscillator, multiplies two 'sin' waves, One goes in raw and the other goes through a mixer to turn into a 'cos' wave. Two inputs will integrate at another mixer and equal zero. The feedback is the argument of the sin function. in an analog vco, Voltage controls the freq, not the wave. Digital oscillator also changes really fast to accomodate to the outside signal (Real World Signal). - We have a dirty OMC which has transmission of about 94%. LIGO wants to keep a functioning spare. - MC Length?? MC inputs length fluctuations into the IFO so we would like to get rid of this noise . . . < 20 Hz. Aaron may be working on this if he finds himself tired of budgeting noise. === Meeting 8/7/2024 === - Demod boad on the LSC Rack, use the Buffered monitor, NOT THE SMA OUTPORT. THIS WILL SHIT ALL OVER GROUND IN THE WHOLE WORLD. FIBOX on the rack that takes and audio input. Send wignal by optical output. This outputs the audio necessary for the mixer. (we will pitch this to Jeff Whack for the front end audio setup.) - For Radhika: She should use 50 kHz as the UGF. The Phase delay of less than 10 degree, otherwise we cannot reach a high enough frequency. We need 2 moku's give the same modulated signals, and compare the readouts. (independent analog or digital PLL) - Lock PRMI and let Kenny grab some data, one during the day, and the other ~10 pm. - The ultimate goal for BHD is to put it together and model majority of the noise we measure. The gaps should all be "Tenths of percents". Put more emphasis on making a plot the is actually meaningful. Who actually understands ALS ? === Meeting 7/24/2024 === - Get a PSD from the Time Series given by nds2 - Prepare to change the seals on the annulus valves + the Pneumatic Valves. Then check the decay rate of the N2 Pressure. - PRM Free Swinging was done by Aaron and Paco. This was to infer what the Free Swinging PRCL with CARM. The Whole PRMI is free, Not PRCL. This is to pop22 or pop110 splits, difference between with FSR and modulation Frequency. Aaron has a model that is working in finesse, but wants to get this information to maximize reality of his model. Though Rana recommends measure the Demodphase of the arm cavity, if the PRMI is not the right length for the mod frequency, the is a phase shift on the PRM. - There is a mapping function from nds that will map nicely over to finesse with a '.yaml' file. Rana likes this idea and nothing else matters. Tough Cheese Aaron propses that in 3 weeks he will have reasonab;e noise budget for BHD he can show us. - For the audio, we need to hook up POX analog out to the fibox input and then connect the fibox output to the mixer Could be found in the LSC Rack. Fiber may still work (Expected to be a ground loop free connection) Connect both end and get this bad boy running. Aaron had a cosmic horse and had to leave. COSMIC HORSE === Meeting 7/3/2024 === - Moku:Go clout compiler - constantly changing linear control in a step-wise fashion. FPGA can be controlled by the RL system. Reinforced learning with the FIR will be great for the clout compiling system. - Moku:Go’s will be ordered by Rana, (4) Colors will be decided by the Journal club Zar. - Get an LDAS C1VAC Back up. - Radhika is trying to use Beat ___ for CARM instead of BeatY. With the ALS, the main issue is is it good enough at the error point ? We need the PRCL signal to be 100x stronger than the MICH Signal. - The modecleaner UGF needs to be above 100 kHz. 20 to 30 kHz is good enough for now, but we could do better if we’d like. We just don’t want the PRCL Signal to be corrupted. - Phaser Freq Discriminator-Bring 2 sin waves and amplify by a jillion. Then they turn into a Square wave, do binary logic on the zero counting crossing. When you are close to the range, it basically turns into a mixer. ```If you understand this, you are a PHD candidate.``` === Meeting 6/26/2024 === - What can we work on while the PSL is down? - Since c1vac is down, we have no ability to pump down the system yet. There is no access. Koji is making the new c1vac2 machine and changing all of the channel names over to "c1vac2". Once we can start reading out the c1vac2 channels, we can kmake the complete roll over to the c1vac2. - Radhika hooked up the Moku:go digital controller for the X Arm Aux laser. Set up the moku:go to be continuously taking tranfer functions. When the moku:go is hooked up to the network, the MG is used as the controller. Cavity was locked at ~8kHz UGF. === Meeting 6/12/2024 === - CM Board has data random data. Where is the Slow Output? Rana suggest to use the Sslow up to 100 Hz and have the fast AO/MC Takeover. Koji guesses that it has something to deal with OUT2. WE LOCK THE ARM WITH POY, POY ERR SIGNAL GOES INTO THE CMBOARD, THE SLOW SIGNAL GOES INTO THE LSC. Maybe we can connect the common mode first then connect it to the CM Slow. Next wen want to blend the relative gain between CM Slow and CM Fast. Can you make the transition from POY to CM Slow without CM Fast ? Keep fast loop disconnected and inject some signal, goes around the ifo and comes back out through the input, here we should be able to get some type of transfer function of the interferometer servo. Radhika may be able to use the moku:pro in the meantime. - JC will send out the SR785 for maintenance by tomorrow. - Maybe create a faster phase tracker using a moku. - Post the histogram for the CPU Meter Channels to the elog === Meeting 6/5/2024 === - ALS open loop transfer function. If the CARM gain is x10, we see a huge oscillation, and vice versa. Ping && Probe around to see what causes the drop in the As we make the transition to CARM, the stability of the RF should be getting better and better. CARM Pole makes a strange shift around the UGF. Single arm cavity pole divided by PRG. Once the common mode servo is found, we boost the common mode frequency. Making this higher, it causes the pole action to become insignificant. ALS CARM is Check the order of the transition. Look at Gautum's script to see whether CARM or DARM is first in the sequence. If we do the CARM locking first, then the DARM signal on the RFPD is clean. Dark port loss is much less than the Power Recycling mirror loss. - AS55 and REFL11 look reasonable so we should just be able to complete the handoff. We want to align first and we need normaliztion of the ___ . - When the gain is set on the Thorlabs PDA36A, gains above 20 dB becomes very bad. elog 18294. The right way to redeign this photodiode would be if we have an opamp and the feedback resistor is changed, first stage should have low gain at high speed. If we distribute to 3 poles, we can increase speed. 3 poles at 1 MHz is faster than 1 pole kHz. - We would like to use the moku:BEAST to get the best lock in the WWW. - GWpy histogram TALK TALK TALK. NO SHOW plt.show(). Channels for CPU Meters for all of the CDS Channels. Send it over to Joe. - Contact Jon Feicht about changing the valve seals. — There is a CARM optical Spring. When gain of the UGF is 5 kHz, we don't care. JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL - Single arm ALS work will roll over to PRFPMI work. Use Moku to get a transfer function. But do it remotely. - Use whatever setting paco found and add it to the transfer function creating script. === Meeting 5/29/2024 === - Frequent C1ioo crash. Processing of c1ioo is more than a whole phase. Delete all the unused filters on c1ioo. Do we even need c1omc ? For all the 16k models, we want a histogram that keeps track. Close your work, or TOUGH CHEESE. - When the alignment is good, we want to grab a time series that shows all of the 2f time series with the arm time-series. Then, we want to do a montecarlo action, change the loop gains a bit +/- to mainly PRCL. Depending on the speed of the arm, we want to see the sideband resonance. "Hong on loosely", we want to cut off things beyond 100 Hz. - Paco scanned the offset on 165Hz and measured the sensing matrix. Frontend sin wave oscillators input into the natural frequencies. - You have a sin wave and a random shot noise time series. How do you seperate between a number of cycles and oscillations. - Y Arm QPD is showing negative signals, DARM is starting to grow but - We want to check if the LIGO Data server has the same data that we have in the Jetstor. We may have to purchase a card to access the legacy interface. We can remove jetstor and store it somewhere in the meantime if we need to. - As of now, CARM are two big ~69 Hz noise signals. CARM Doesnt not show up very good in the REFL. POX will always have a good signal, so we can use this to help the PRMI lock. === Meeting 5/22/2024 === - All of our UPS systems should be APC Company. This should be a swap made for the Nodus UPS. WE CANNOT HAVE NODUS GOING DOWN SO OFTEN. - Rana will contact Derek about updating the Summary Pages. He will also take care of getting rid of the Megatron Computer. - Adjust the REFL Phase until the REFL_Q phase becomes tiny. Lock the 3f PRMI, DO NOT HAVE THE UGF OF THE LOOPS JACKED UP. - How can we measure the RAM? Measure at the place that bothers us, the REFL 3f detector (With ITMs and ETMs misaligned to get the straight PRM Shot). Go beyond the 2nd order bessel function. We care about the DC part, after the dark offset, get the bright offset. If the Q signal is half, we have to reduce the RAM. Buy bubble levels and place around the tables. Small ones. - Add Temperature Changes to my monthly checklist. Anomolies to get graphed through my NumPy skills. - We want to check if the LIGO Data server has the same data that we have in the Jetstor. We may have to purchase a card to access the legacy interface. We can remove jetstor and store it somewhere in the meantime if we need to. === Meeting 5/15/2024 === - The Y arm transmission is dependent on the input alignment, but the X arm is immune to that for some reason. Is there clipping behind the BeamSplitter? If this comes from the damping actuation, if we tune the coil balancing to have the actuation node then the coupling of the optics should be lower. - The temperature change in the X Arm triggers the pirani and cathode gauge. p1a triggers a break in the threshold of the interlocks. - Try using a heat gun or hair dryer to heat p1a and watch the trend to see if they correlate. === Meeting 5/08/2024 === - 3f PRMI locking was not stable when offset from the resonance. We should do the test of locking and drive the arms around while looking at DARM Signal. Making the MICH Bandwidth is really bad. Get the arm disruption data. - Why do we have so many ND filters in front of REFL165. Gautum used to use REFL165 to lock MICH. - CARM offset affect the 3f offset based on previous elogs from Gautum. - We will try locking using REFL165. This will allow us to understand what is going on a bit more. - For modulation depth testing we can do an arm scan using the ALS. Scan one FSR and find the sidebands. Shouldn't be below 0.05 and not above 0.5, somewhere in between. - Get the AC belt to be fixed from 8:00AM-10:00AM on Fridays. - BHD Finesse model. Aaron should use the sanctioned filter files. === Meeting 5/01/2024 === - The OPLEV Loops are all AC. Once PRFPMI is locked, do we switch these to DC just in case there is alignment drift. This may help, but we don't understand it completely. Gautum did this when he locked PRFPMI. - The previous year, we spent $1761.24 on N2 Cylinders for the Vacuum system. How much will it cost to make a permanent fix, and how long will it take for this upgrade to pay itself off? - The sidebands change on MICH. What are the Sidebands change relative to the Carrier ? The is always a "Sign Flip" somewhere that needs to be flipped. We can't do a Mich lock until the PRCL lock happens. Once this is squashed, we can actually see a REFL Q signal (Looks VERY SIMILAR to Mich Signal!) Have all the whitening on, even if we staurate PRCL, it's OK. Make sure the Demod phase setting is precise. Tune the REFL Demod phase and watch the NDSCOPE until the Main PDH signal is very tiny. - Why do we use REFL11? The Michaelson transmission is Sine and Reflection is Cosine. Q signal would go up because we get more action with the phase shifting. - Look at the Time-Series of the PRMI Dithering lock and compare to the last Lock. - Could we get a calibrated PRMI Carrier Spectrum. - Physics toolbox or phyphox to see where this 37 Hz. - Plot the Sum for all of the Optical levers and post to the elog once a month. Empty N2 replaced. Logged back into zita and started the StripTool traces (even though we keep the TV off nowadays). c1susaux acro-crate power cycled to re-enable PRM suspension control (all other vertex optics also now respond to slow bias voltage sliders being moved). c1iscaux needed a hard reboot as it wasn’t seen on martian. I power cycled the crate for good measure. Marconi turned back on with correct frequency/amplitude. c0rga is now seen again on martian network. I re-enabled the RGA scanning so that it takes a scan every morning at 4am. The forepumps for TP2/TP3 are noisier than I remember. The former has ~10,000 hrs on the clock. How often does the tip seal replacement need to happen? HV supplies for ASX/ASY PZTs re-energized. IFO re-aligned for locking. c1oaf and c1daf models restarted. c1oaf required the usual start/stop/start sequence to make the DAQ errors go away, and luckily the FE didn’t crash when the model was unloaded. POX/POY/PRMI 1f carrier/green locking all was smooth. For some reason, the PRC angular FF filters i trained no longer do anything good (but MCL is still good). Stuart Anderson reported some power event on campus. Still investigating if we need to get to the lab for the recovery. Network recovery (Larry/KA) Asked Larry to get into the lab. 14:30 Larry went to the lab office area. He restarted (power cycled) the edge-switch (on the rack next to the printer). This recovered the ssh-access to nodus. Also Larry turned on the CAD WS. Koji confirmed the remote access to the CAD WS. Nodus recovery (KA) Apr 12, 22:43 nodus was restarted. Apache (dokuwiki, svn, etc) recovered: sudo systemctl restart httpd ELOG recovered: controls@nodus|elog> ./startELOGD.sh Control Machines / RT FE / Acromag server Status Gautam - Judging by uptime, basically only the machines that are on UPS (all control room workstations + chiara) survived the power outage. All RT FEs are down. Apart from c1susaux, the acromag servers are back up (but the modbus processes have NOT been restarted yet). Vacuum machine is not visible on the network (could just be a networking issue and the local subnet to valves/pumps is connected, but no way to tell remotely). Comment by KA: I imagine that FB took some finite time to come up. However, the RT machines required FB to download the OS. That made the RTs down. If so, what we need is to power cycle them. Not sure about this setup for the Acromags. The power was lost at Apr 12 22:39:42, according to the vacuum pressure log. The power loss was for a few min. Vacuum design / Controls / Equipment KA Replace manual gate valve with actuated one TP/RP capacity Jon Replace the UPS Need a 240V socket for TP1 (currently - the pump most likely to be damaged by a power failure is not on a UPS) Need RS232/485 comms with the interlock server (currently - the interlock server does not know when a power failure has occurred, so cannot shut down pumps and valves before the battery is drained) Replace all the failed pressure gauges (~5) Add more cold cathode sensors to the main volume for sensor redundancy Currently - the main-volume interlocks are predicated on only 1 working sensor (737 MAX...) Replace TP3 The controller is failing (intermittent garbage temp/speed readbacks that were spuriously triggering the interlocks) I think we have a new Agilent available to switch in Remove RP2 It is dead and also not needed We already have to throttle the pumpdown rate with only two roughing pumps Remove or refurbish/replace the cryopump Contamination risk to have it connectable to the main volume (e.g., once during the vac upgrade, we accidentally opened VC1) Fresh new MEDM screens (similar to the sites) Rana Remove N2 cylinders and use a compressor. Current cost: 92 cyrinders/year x $13/cyr ~ $1.2K/year Loss research (Yehonathan/Tega) April 7, 2020 (Tue) Progress Report Jon Regarding IPC for new front ends, Dolphin confirmed: The Gen1 cards will NOT work with modern Linux OS There is no way to mix old and new cards Conclusion: we have to either upgrade all the machines (not possible) or install an old OS on c1bhd and c1sus2. Let’s plan to go with Debian 8. Jon Started 40m noise budget migration to pygwinc Details here Koji Updated the 40mBHD procurement spreadsheet. "Custom Parts Sublist" tab of this link I had some miscounting of the HAM A coil drivers. T -> The number of the HAM A was increased. I reconsidered the Binary Output configuration. -> The number of the BO I/F was increased. April 3, 2020 (Fri) Progress Report Jon: Dolphin IPC for new front ends Keith Thorne confirmed we can get Dolphin Gen1 PCIe cards from the sites. They upgraded pre-O3. However he also pointed out a complication: the driver (last updated 2016) is not compatible with the latest Linux kernel. It requires <=3.x, which limits us to something of the Debian 8 era. See details from Keith. April 2, 2020 (Thu) Progress Report Jon: c1auxey upgrade Created EPICS database, target directory, and systemd files for c1auxey upgrade Created internal wiring diagram for Acromag chassis See details on elog 15292 Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Gautam was in the lab 1-4pm. With RIO as the baseline, all the optics are OK with this low power. With Aerodiode, we buy it for testing. We eventually will have higher power and then will employ the fiber coupled modulators etc. We still need to think about the high power EOM for the f1, f2 modulations (aLIGO RTP EOM?) Jon CDS: purchase list / Obsolete PCIe Gen1 dolphin IPC card -> Ask Keith Thorne Optics spec: spec spread sheet Yehonathan BHD angular jitter noise / OMC noise Yehonathan/Jon EX Acromag c1exaux channel list / wiring Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Gautam tried to remotely lock the PRMI but it is proving very difficult without any visual feedback of what the cavities are doing and with the laggy ndscope over ssh. March 31, 2020 (Tue) Progress Report Jon Created a unified CDS/SUS electronics purchase order for Rich and Chub. They are going to begin procuring the parts for custom electronics. Yehonathan Fixed some issues in the angular noise section in the DRD. Added consideration for the angular noise of the OMC breadboard when it is suspended and when it is fixed. March 30, 2020 (Mon) Progress Report Koji Worked on the electronics tab of the BHD purchase spreadsheet . Discussion with Yehonathan about the jitter noise at the OMC. Also asked Yehonathan to work on the vibrational effect of the OMC when the BHD platform is fixed on the stack. Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Gautam worked on some (remote) MCL transfer function measurements from ~10pm-1am. March 29, 2020 (Sun) Progress Report Yehonathan Calculation of angular RMS noise. Figure of angular noise modelling in DRD now only shows the projected noise for this RMS noise. Figures now show frequency range from 0.1Hz to 100Hz. Input HOMs spectrum was removed. Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Rana went to the 40m in the afternoon to collect the PPE stocks for donation March 26, 2020 (Thu) Progress Report Yehonathan I have made a wiring + channel list that needs to be included in the new C!AUXEY Acromag. It was mostly copied from C1AUXEX. I ignored the IPANG channels since it is going to be removed from the table. Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Jordan Remote SW WS 10am-12pm March 25, 2020 (Wed) Progress Report Jon Set up a spreadsheet for tracking the BHD hardware procurement. (requires ligo.org credentials) So far I've filled out a tab with the CDS components (still in progress). The price column now reflects actual quoted cost, not an estimate. The idea would be to add a new tab for each subsystem into this one central spreadsheet. Rana Aero diodes - same as RIO CW 200mW -> Neolase, LW - 200kHz RIN - 10^-7 at 100Hz / 10^-8 above 1kHz Price $3k Advantage: This allow us to lose some power in the modulators before the amplifier March 24, 2020 (Tue) Progress Report Yehonathan Input angular noise was recalculated taking vibration isolation stack transfer function into account. Updated BHD DRD angular noise section explaining this estimation and added a figure showing the input angular noise used for the modelling. Bottomline is that angular detuning of steering mirrors is much more relaxed - Above 35Hz noise requirement is met for all detunings. I also updated the executive summary. Didn’t have anything to write for the angular noise requirement at 100Hz other than “non existent”. Maybe someone else has better phrasing. March 23, 2020 (Mon) Progress Report Gautam The source files (LTspice models and data files) used for the satellite box and coil driver noise (sensing and actuation respectively) analysis has now been posted to the dropbox. The conclusions haven’t changed. Worked a bit on reminding myself of the feedforward filter calculation ideas. I decided to work with IMC length feedforward first, with the eventual goal of implementing this for PRC angular feedforward. Some questions: For the pre-filtering by plant mechanical TF - we measure this typically by exciting the optic and looking for the response in the target channel (e.g. MCL). but this is NOT the same as the TF from the seismic to the target channel (stack TF is completely bypassed). Is this a case of partially identifying the TF is better than leaving all params free? March 21, 2020 (Sat) Progress Report Koji Working on the BHD electronics diagram -> Done. The diagram and the BOM (except for the ordinary DSUB cables) are found in the 40m dropbox folder. [Dropbox PDF] For the entire BHD project, we newly want: 3 32ch ADC cards 7 8ch 18bit DAC cards 2 32ch Digital Output cards, which can be taken from the existing c1sus We need 132 binary output channels for the ISC whitening and DCPD switching. But I believe all these can be implemented with Acromag. Working on the BHD electronics diagram March 19, 2020 (Thu) Progress Report Koji Still working on the BHD electronics wiring diagram. Now implementing the intermediate transition state of the coil drivers. I.e. new coil drivers for non-TM masses, but keep using the current dewhitenings and the coil drvs for 4 TMs. Also checking the required # of DO channels. Physical presence at the 40m / Remote access / etc Jordan remote into Solidworks station ~10am-3pm March 18, 2020 (Wed) Gautam’s update on electronics noise analysis Coil driver and satellite box preliminary noise analysis - can be found here. In summary, I think that with appropriate modifications, we can use the units suggested for the new SOS optics that will be installed for BHD. The electronics noise of the shadow sensor readout circuit is unlikely to be limiting at any frequency of interest. The replacement of existing coil drivers will need significant modifications. I will upload the source files used somewhere shortly. We can use this chain for the BHD Relay optics We need custom coil drivers for TMs We need dewhitening for TMs Koji BHD Electronics Wiring Diagram [PDF] (to be converted to Altium diagram slowly) Total 17 SOS chain completely renewed + 1 SOS equivalent for BHD SUS 2 x OMC electronics chain ~4x 8 DB25 feedthrus # of channels ADC SUS35+BHDSUS6+OMCQPD16+DCPD4+REFLDC1 = 62 -> 2x32ch ADC cards are just barely enough DAC SUS35+BHD6+PZT4 = 45 -> 6x8ch 18bit DAC cards are just barely enough (18bit DAC has 8 chs. March 17, 2020 (Tue) Report (KA) When you happen to come to the lab, you may feel like cleaning some common surfaces as well as your hands. The common surfaces mean: tables, keyboards, instrument keys, doorknobs, light switches, laser safety goggles, and so on. I came in this afternoon and supplied some cleaning resources: Hand soap at the sink. Dish soap has already been at the sink (and beneath the sink) as usual. Disinfectant wet wipe at the control room. I did some wiping off the tables, doorknobs, and keyboards of the ctrl machines. But it's far from perfect. So help yourself to use them to clean your circumstances. c.f. CDC guidance Some notes: We have some alcohols in the yellow cabinet. Isopropanol in yellow squish bottles can be turned to some wiping liquid but need to dilute a bit with water. Acetone and Methanol are not suitable for cleaning. Methanol is toxic too. We want to preserve the liquids in the glass bottles. Don't share the inner shoes. Stick with yours if you have. If not, use shoe covers. Label your name on a favorite laser goggle for temporary personalization. Don't forget to wipe it occasionally. Most of the work station jobs can be done from your laptop. If you need a physical console to be personalized, let us know. With the current density of the people in the lab, we could do it. Gautam wants to exclusively occupy pianosa console. The CAD WS can be used via remote desktop. I listed the access info on https://secrets.ligo.org/secrets/ When you are going to occupy this PC, notify us about your estm. Duration of the use here. Please share if you have any additional thoughts. Physical presence at the 40m Koji came in at 2:30 PM, left at 7:30 PM. Gautam another locking trial on Wed. March 16, 2020 (Mon) Home works Jon and Yehonathan ETMY Acromag: Start preparing the ETMY acromag unit. The setup can be mostly copied from the ETMX acromag. Yehonathan Elaborate Section 6.4 of the BHD requirement document to describe the angular coupling of the suspension, also considering the frequency response of the vibration isolation stack (T1900636). Describe these separately and explicitly: the source vibration, the coupling process, and the resulting noise. This will become a response to the BHD review. Gautam Sensing/Actuator noise estimation. Rich suggested for us to use D1002818 and D1100687 as the satellite amp and the coil driver. Calculate the sensing limit and the actuator noise level with them. The coil driver noise analysis by Luis can be found here: E1900347 Rich likely to have the noise analysis of the sat amp. We'd be able to get the source files of the analyses from them for the detailed noise budgeting. Gautam: I’m in touch with Rich regarding models/data he may have. I will post an update by March 18. Koji BHD electronics diagram: The draft is already uploaded as a dropbox file although it needs some checking of the actual setup. BHD optical layout BHD timeline update: As of March 15 (Dropbox) BHD Procurement Please proceed to procure the BHD parts. For now, we use our usual LOPS.FAC.LBSH.57.CIT account.
