Captain's analysis: After a fabolous first inning where our team operated like a softball machine, we somehow lost the grip and gave away a certain win. Heroic individual efforts could not compensate for our obvious deficits in batting for the rest of the game. Only superhuman will power made it possible to score another run in the last inning of the match. Unfortunately, we found out well after the game that the umpire has not even recognized the score so that the official final result was 5:23. In general, I think that it can be a good strategy to distract the umpire with violent body checks against weak opponents to do even meaner things elsewhere on the field, but we should try to avoid this in the future whenever we are about to score (unless a basewoman is standing between you and the base). I am almost certain that we could win games with our intelligence alone, but I would also be happy to see many of you at our next training session.

Notable efforts

  • Stuart and Zach's outfield catches - nice work.
  • Dmass telling the batter to hit the ball straight at him … and then having the ball hit straight at him.

Captain's analysis: Jay would be proud of us if he had watched the match. The outfield defense has improved by orders of magnitude, and the infield was almost flawless. If this slope of progress can be maintained for the remaining season, then I can already see us measuring GW by Doppler-tracking of softballs. The final score was 4:16, which means amplitude versus power, string versus brane, etc. So how can anyone seriously consider this a defeat? Still, some more practicing of our batting would not hurt.

Notable efforts

Note the eyes intently focused on the ball despite the huge gash on the leg.

Captain's analysis: First, I need to apologize that I never pay attention to our own scores. So the scores per inning are problably wrong for this week. The true reason for this is that we scored many more points as we usually do, and that it was quite challenging to keep track of our runs. It was a fantastic game. Many people got to the first base. So it seems like our training sessions are not in vain. Still, all this pinky, rosy, light blue sky talking is totally meaningless since we lost another match. Final score was 11:18. Too bad. Love was beating LIGO. However, improving our batting skills a little more and developing some rage in the field, we should be able to get our first victory next week. So let's kick butts in the next game and prove that we can maintain the pace of progress.

Notable efforts

  • Nothing is greater than to see four of our people running home with a single hit. Stuart, you are a virtuoso di bastone (Italian speakers, please correct my grammar if necessary).

Captain's analysis: "Speech, speech, speech!". The crowd was rioting after our impeccable 14:1 win yesterday. Yes, our horizon looked a little brighter that night. To quote another of these damn good English philosophers: thirty years of hurt never stopped me dreaming. A captain should say goodbye when the team is at its best. This is perfectly true, and therefore I need to stay captain for another three games. The field play this time was flawless, batting was ok, and so I can draw attention to details. It is finally legit to ask for faster running, more powerful throwing and the like. I guess that batting should still be priority in our training sessions, but we should be mentally prepared for our next step towards the Hall of Fame of softball teams. Babe Ruth would be proud of us.

Notable efforts

  • Rana's merciless one-minute home run ending in a funny locomotive type showdown with three of our guys running home.

Game 5 - vs A-HATS (15th July)

Captain's analysis: 19:3

Notable efforts

  • I hate doing things twice including writing a Captain's Analysis a second time that was superinspiring, but got deleted when clicking on the "Save Changes" button. What the hell?
