Installing in Windows
How to print to the networked HP laser printers from Windows.
- In the Printers control panel, choose "Add a printer."
- Despite your best instincts, choose "Local printer attached to this computer." Uncheck "Automatically detect." Click "Next."
- Choose "Create a new port" with Type Of Port set to "Standard TCP/IP Port." Click "Next."
- Enter the IP address of the printer. Click "Next."
- Windows should now be able to talk to the printer and find out what it needs to know. Click "Finish."
Select a printer driver. For the LaserJet 5000N, Windows XP already has the driver you need. For the Laserjet 2550, you have to download one from HP.
