LIGO X

The LIGO Instrument Science Group at Caltech

Meeting time: Tuesdays, Noon, 3rd Floor West Bridge SCR

The goal of this group is to collaborate and discuss ideas for experiments to perform on the Caltech campus. We work on projects that are immediately applicable to the IFOs today, as well as future generations of interferometers.

Presenters are sometimes chosen in advance, sometimes chosen spontaneously, to present the experiments they are working on, experiments they plan to work on, or experiments which could be interesting for LIGO. All talks should be "chalkboard talks", i.e. no prepared slides.

Pizza

We often have pizza at our meetings.

If it's your turn to order the pizza, call up [http://pizzamanpasadena.com/ Pizza Man] - (626) 577-1135‎

  • If it is possible, order the day before
  • Order 3 extra large (or 4 if there is a large turnout expected) - these come with 16 smaller slices (which is good)
  • At least one pizza must be vegetarian. Also, the carnivores get antsy if there's not at least one pizza with some kind of meat / chicken.
  • The Vegetarians gave a big thumbs up to the Pesto Pizza - the Mexican Pizza is also a hit with the meat eaters
  • You get 50% off each second XL pizza - so 30$ for two, 50$ for three, and 60$ for four. Four is a lot of pizza.
  • Make sure to ask for an itemized receipt
  • Ask for sodas from the pizza guy, or buy ~3 2-liter bottles of soda from the C-Store or elsewhere.
  • Ask him to meet you across the street from Cahill (aka "The Red Building") on California...they know where that is (usually that means Wilson and California to the driver).
  • Someone (Dmass?) had easy delivery to San Pasqual and Wilson, (had the driver get confused once trying to find Cahill)
  • Keep your receipts - give them to Julie Hiroto, and she will take care of your reimbursement.

The Pizza List

We've had trouble lately with grad students remembering when it's their turn to get the pizzas. This is a big no-no, since it leaves the entire LIGO-X group grumpy all day. This list is the official place to look. In an effort to remind people, emails will be sent out weekly the night before the meeting, but grad students are still responsible for checking here, and should not rely entirely on the emails.
