The ipython notebook located here describes the noise in a balanced homodyne detector with mode cleaners for the signal (OMC) and local oscillator (LMC). The ipython notebook located here describes the noise in a balanced homodyne detector with mode cleaners for the signal (OMC) and local oscillator (LMC) as shown below. A static version of the notebook can be viewed here

Noise Budget

Simple BHD

The ipython notebook located here describes the noise in a simple balanced homodyne detector consisting only of a local oscillator, a beamsplitter, and two photodiodes. The noise is computed with an Optickle model and a heuristic analytic description is given.

BHD with Mode Cleaners

The ipython notebook located here describes the noise in a balanced homodyne detector with mode cleaners for the signal (OMC) and local oscillator (LMC) as shown below. A static version of the notebook can be viewed here

BHD detection of a simple Michelson

BHD detection of the full 40m Interferometer

Requirements

 1. Displacement noise of OMC/LMC mirrors
 2. Scatter loss in mirrors
 3. Cavity design: triangle, quad ring, quad zig-zag (reference the new OMC paper from Koj)
 4. Laser amplitude / frequency noise including DC offsets in various other lock points and motions to simulate bilinear noise
 5. Oscillator noise: AM / FM
 6. Aux length noise: MICH/PRC/ SRC
 7. Req. on offsets/asymmetries: arm finesse, arm reflectivity, mass imbalance of ETMs
